An open letter to Dr. Joseph Becerra F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Becerra,

I have no way in which to contact you, so I am hoping that by some trick of the Googlebots, you'll someday run a search on your name and find this.

You are my favorite doctor ever, and I am so sad to think of never seeing you again. But what would make me more sad is if you just stop. It is my fervent hope that you will pass along your wisdom and incomparable bedside manner to new generations of OB/GYN practitioners: TEACH!

While I hope and pray that your injury can be healed so that you may return to full practice in the profession I know you love... I am certain that the world needs people like you to instruct others also. There should be many more physicians with your endearing qualities. And if they ever ask for candidates to be cloned, I'd nominate you in a heartbeat.

Stay strong, and know that we, your many MANY patients truly adore you... and hope to one day be graced with your presence again.

Sincerely and with love,
Lydia Glider-Shelley
Your patient since 1988!

Hi, I too was a patient of Dr. Becerra and it saddens me to know that he is not practicing. He had been until recently the only OBGYN I had ever had.

He is awesome. Are you seeing Dr. Augustino now?

I do hope some day that Dr. Becerra can return to practice, but if not... it would make me feel a lot better knowing that he was teaching the next generation of OB/GYNs, one of whom might deliver my grandchildren...

I was also a patient of Dr. Becerra. He was a good doctor. I miss him. I am now going to Dr. Michael Augustino who used to be his partner. He is terrific. He spends a lot of time with his patients and really cares. A lot of my friends go to him and everyone loves him. He is a dedicated doctor and I highly recommend him.

I've been with Becerra & Augustino since 1989 or 90... Dr. Augustino delivered two of my children (1990 and 1994) and Dr. Becerra delivered my youngest in 2001. When I last visited Dr. Augustino and asked about Dr. Becerra he said he had no idea how he is, that they're no longer in touch. That made me sad again.

I too was a patient of Dr. Becerra and absolutely loved him. I was so upset when he stopped practicing. I had heard the whole hand injury thing was not really true. I have been unable to find another doctor since he disappeared. I vehemently dislike Dr. Augustino and will not go to him. If anyone finds Dr. Becerra, tell him to come back!

Why do you dislike Dr. Augustino? I agree, he doesn't have the charm of his former partner...

Apparently he wasn't that good sent he left and sponge inside one of his patients and know she is unable to have kids.

I have been using Dr Augustino for many years. He delivered all my children and did a surgery on me. He is the greatest. I wouldnt go to anyone else. Many of my friends and family see him also. I have never heard a negative thing about him. I would highly reccomend him to anyone who needs a good doctor.

I heard on the news that Dr Becerra left a gause pad in a patient. I thought it was the nurses responsibility to count all those before they close the patient?

Wow .. i am soooo behind on this. I was just today (in 2012) thinking back on my precious doctor, Dr.Joseph Becerra and Googled him to find this information. ~ I am so saddened by all of this. ~ He and Marla delivered my 3 youngest children in 1997, '98 and in '01. ~ He was the most compassionate doctor ever. I had lost many babies and thanks to his wonderful care and God's blessings, 2 of my 3 miracles babies were delivered by him. ~ I will never forget the morning my 3rd was arriving. HE was so distraught because he had just lost a set of twins. He was in such grief, he asked if i minded that he went home since all was going well with my delivery. His midwife, Marla was equally wonderful and took over. ~ IF the accusations are true, i would suggest, as tragic as it is, that the thousands of lifes he helped bring into this world are equally as important as this one, tragic error. ~ There are times we have to trust that God was in control. ~ And my heart goes out to Dr.Becerra because if anyone would be distraught over this, it would be himself. He truly cared and was personally invested in each patient. ~ I pray he is at peace wherever he may be. He was this mom's angel on earth!!! ~ God's blessings on Dr.B!!! ~

I agree with you. And I am annoyed that Dr. Augustino lied about why Dr. Becerra was no longer there. He never did have the class or bedside manner that Dr. Becerra exhibited.

I also feel that it was probably a nurse or O.R. Tech who was responsible, but under the law I suppose they can sue anyone who was involved. Either way, I am as sure as you are that it affected him deeply.

I wonder if it was the events of 9/11 that made this happen, if the O.R. staff was distracted over what had happened. My youngest child was born six days before the incident that he was sued over. It could have just as easily been me this happened to, if I hadn't scheduled my own C-section for the 5th.

I was also a patient in 1987 and yes he is a wonderful doctor. I might of found his children on facebook. He had 2 sons and a daughter. Does Alex, Daniel and Victoria sound familiar to you?

No, but he never spoke about them to me. The first childbirth I had with them was in 1990, but Dr. Augustino performed the delivery. Out of all the pregnancies I went through with them, he only delivered the most recent: a week before the horrible incident mentioned above. I feel so badly that it happened, and that it destroyed the career of such a wonderful doctor. I hope he is doing well in whatever endeavors he is currently pursuing.

I am still searching for an ob/gyn as wonderful as Dr. Becerra. I MISS him so terribly. I thought about him often when I had my breast cancer. I know he would have been so supportive unlike the doctor i ended up with and now am looking for someone else. NO ONE could light a candle to Dr.B. I was his patient for about 20 years. He was not only compassionate, he was an excellent physician and a beautiful person.

Thank you for stopping by, and I agree. I'm sorry you had to suffer through cancer with doctors whose bedside manner and level of compassion were not up to par. The medical field has become too corporate and the humanity has been drained out of it.

Holy cow. I went to med school with Becerra. He was a slime bag. cheated on his pregnant wife. God knows what else. I guess karma definitely caught up with him. he probably changed his name, moved out of state and started over again. the state medical boards are terrible in keeping track of offenders. I hope you weren't one of the patients he schtupped.

I used to go to the offices of Dr. Augustino and Dr. Becerra. I believe I saw one, and when the other was not available I saw the other. I had a hard time conceiving. They were very efficient and sent me for all kinds of diagnostic tests, to get to the root of the infertility.

I moved away to Orlando when my Husband went back to school, and and found out I was pregnant!!!! They helped me without ever knowing! But they parted and went their separate ways in their practices..and I believe this was before the hand / surgical issue.

Where would I find my past records…if Dr Becerra's practice is closed and I believe Dr Augustino is in a different location by now?

Sistersunshine, Thank you so much for your reply! I had no idea if you were even current here. I can relate to a lot of what you say especially regarding Autism & Asperger's.

After having children with Autism, looking back on my life and my husband's life we both feel it is all over both of our families!

Thank you for replying back.

Tess
