Angina?
I'm not sure if it's all this stress about hurricanes and car repairs, unemployment and re-enrolling in school (no I haven't, but I want to if I can't find a job soon) but when I swallow food or beverage, or if I burp, I'm getting a godawful pain in my heart. My husband's company just changed insurance providers, however, so I don't have my new card yet. I don't want to go to the hospital and wait all day, but I don't want to die, either. I hope it's just nerves.

Could this be a classic case of heart-burn/trapped wind? I used to get it quite often when i would try to take a deep breath or like you - attempt to swallow food. My cure for this is to take a deep breath until i feel something inside pop at the site of the pain (don't worry its not your heart exploding, its just a trapped air bubble). Try it...

Ps. I'm not a medic and this could be something serious, so if it continues i would see a doctor.
Pss. link exchange?
Thanks guys. The thing is, the left side of my neck and my left arm are starting to bother me too... so I really wish my insurance card had come today. I would have rather gone to a cardiologist than the ER... but such is life. If it keeps getting worse, I'm gonna give in and go to the hospital.
Thanks. Now I'm going to be worried about you and not sleep, and pace up and down, and drink too much, get anxious, I can feel the stress building up already. I'll be checking this site on the hour every hour until I know you're OK. And if you then tell me it was indigestion, I'll scream.
Awwwwww Mikel, that's sweet. I'm still not sure what it is, but I've had indigestion, and I can definitely rule THAT out. It is either angina or more serious heart trouble... but I have to wait until my insurance card comes to see a doctor unless it gets critical, in which case I'll dial 911 and call an ambulance. What concerns me the most is that my left hand is intermittently numb... and my left shoulder aches, too. If it were just a pulled muscle or whatnot, it would be feeling better by now. However, I'm still holding out hope that it's just the stress of my current situation, and that once Ivan passes on by I'll begin to feel better.
